Cutting board in wood or plastic?

The favourite of professional chefs is undoubtedly a wooden cutting board. Despite the fact that this can get scratched, a thicker wooden cutting board will last for decades with proper maintenance. Moreover, it is also good for your knives. The softer the wood is the less it will affect the sharpness. As soon as you start using a bamboo cutting board, this is an advantage that partly goes away.

By the way, did you know that wood has antibacterial properties? So there is absolutely no need to worry about cutting raw meat. Although there are some drawbacks. For instance, putting a wooden cutting board in the dishwasher is not exactly the best idea. So you will have to wash it yourself. And to keep your beautiful wooden cutting board in top condition, you will also have to get out the oil once in a while.

Of course, you can also opt for a stylish board in glass or marble, but the hardness of these materials will make your knives blunt quickly. We therefore recommend these only for their decorative value, but not for daily use.

What is the advantage of a cutting board with a juice slot?

You often see the word 'juice slot' mentioned on a cutting board. But what exactly is a juicing slot and what is it for? A juicing groove is the groove on the outer edge of a cutting board. It serves to catch the juice that comes out of your meat, fruit or vegetables when you cut them. So the juicing groove prevents your countertop from getting dirty, which of course saves on cleaning up afterwards.
